Shuriken Targets

Information and advise

Unfortunately we dont have the space to store targets to sell but here we will put some recommendations for what type of material to use for your shuriken Targets.

Many people will use wood such as an old door as a target which is fine in our experience for the stars, however we dont recommend wood for bo-shuriken. If you insist on using wood then we suggest that you use Pine as its a soft wood. Using wood can result in Bo-shuriken tips bending. We do not recommend this.

In Japan when you study Shuriken you will use a Target that is literally an old traditonal Tatami Mat. Outside of Japan, Tatami are expensive and difficult to obtain.

We therefore have two suggestions for you.

1. Archery targets.

In our dojo we have access to archery targets (see photo on right) and we have found them to be the best material to use for targets. Bo-shuriken sink into them very well and stay in excellent condition with the tips never bending unless the shuriken hit each other.

2. Cardboard.

Cardboard is great to use as it tends to be free from just about any convenience store and its disposible when finished with. We suggest a minimum of 6 layers of corrigated (packing) card taped together. Literally wrap a few bands around the card to hold it together tight, a couple up and down and a couple left and right in this pattern #. Thats all that you need.
