Nawa (5 rope set)

Nawa (5 rope set)
Nawa (ropes) were used by Samurai and Edo period police to restrain their opponent because handcuffs had yet to be invented, or used in Japan.

This is a set of 5 ropes. They are based on the 5 different colours associated with the 4 directions (and the centre), each colour having an animal, direction, season and location associated with each one. In ancient days, hojojutsu practitioners would carry one of the ropes which represented the season at that time.

The set contains
1 x White (Natural) rope
1 x Red rope
1 x Blue rope
1 x Black rope
1 x Yellow rope

The ropes are approximately 4m - 4.5m long with one end spliced with a loop ready to use, and the other end spliced to stop fraying.

The rope is from Japan, and has been hand dyed

We have only one set available at this time.
The set will come with some additional information regarding the colour system mentioned
